Years ago, Sebastian Haff was a renowned Elvis impersonator, and then one day he was visited by the King himself. What no one knew was that Elvis had grown tired of his life and that he traded identities with Haff. So, when Haff, as Elvis, was found dead, the real Elvis continued as the impersonator. Initially he’d signed a contract with Haff to prove that the identities had been switched, but the contract had long since burned up, which meant that Elvis no longer had any choice in the matter. Still, he didn’t mind it at first, but later, after he’d thrown his hip during a show and was ultimately remanded to a nursing home, he became frustrated over the fact that no one believed his story.

To everyone, he was just Sebastian Haff. The only other person that believed his was Elvis was his only friend, a black man who claimed to be JFK dyed black. Together, Haff and JFK are confronted by horror in the form of Bubba Ho-Tep, the mummy preying upon the nursing home, attacking the elderly and consuming their souls. Both Haff and JFK have seen the mummy with their own eyes, but neither of them reports the incident because they know that no one else would believe them.
At one point, Haff shares a kind of mind link with Ho-Tep and receives intimations of Ho-Tep’s arrogant former existence, a young Egyptian monarch mummified alive. And now the mummy, being reasonably ineffectual, exploits the nursing home in the interest of weaker prey, assailing it with giant scarab beetles. Still, Ho-Tep hadn’t counted upon two enemies in the form of Elvis and JFK, so Ho-Tep ends up with more on his hands that initially expected.
Finally, Haff and JFK suit up for the big showdown, Haff of course wearing the King’s jumpsuit finery. In the end the power of the King triumphs over the King of the Dead, and Elvis perseveres as an unsung hero. Just taking care of business.
